TOWSON, Md. – The Dodgers were in another close battle Friday night with the Baltimore Redbirds, but this time they weren’t able to come out on top.

With the game tied at two in the top of the 10th inning, Redbirds outfielder Randy Bednar lined an RBI double over David Bellamy’s head in right field that scored what would be the winning run.

The 3-2 victory for the Redbirds helped them improve to 17-11 on the season while the Dodgers fell to 11-17.

In a home game for the Dodgers that was played at Carlo Crispino Stadium, the Redbirds struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI fielder’s choice from Drew Blakely with the bases loaded. However, one run is all the Redbirds would get in the third inning, and the Dodgers eventually struck back.

After an error by Redbirds third baseman Andy McGuire kept the inning alive with two outs, Shane Coker lined an RBI single up the middle to tie the game. Austin James followed with a bloop single to right fie...

Dodgers set for home game away from home against Redbirds

TOWSON, Md. – The Baltimore Dodgers and Baltimore Redbirds were scheduled to meet at Joe Cannon Stadium for the second time this season and for the fourth time overall.

However, the weather had other plans.

With rain making Cannon’s field unplayable, the two teams moved the game to Carlo Crispino Stadium — the home of the Redbirds. It will be an official home game on someone else’s field for the Dodgers, but that shouldn’t bother Dodgers starting pitcher Mark Michael.

Michael has made two appearances at Carl Crispino Stadium this season and has had major success in both games. He first tossed five scoreless innings in relief during the Dodgers’ 15-inning suspended game against the Redbirds June 16. Michael then followed that up with a seven-inning start June 28 in which he allowed only one run in a 4-1 Dodgers victory.

The Dodgers are 2-1 against the Redbirds on the season, and it will be up to Redbirds starter Colin Peluse to even the season...

Four Dodgers named to CRCBL All-Star Team

HANOVER, Md. – The Cal Ripken League has released its rosters for the 2017 All-Star Game, and four Baltimore Dodgers — Josh Hejka, Joey Ortiz, Austin James and Shamoy Christopher — were named to the roster.

The only pitcher from the Dodgers staff to get the nod was Hejka, and he sure did deserve it. In 36 innings this season, the right-hander has posted a 1.00 ERA and struck out 29 batters. Hejka has been the ace for Baltimore all season and is allowing opponents to hit only .205 off his submarine delivery.

While no other pitchers were named to the All-Star Team, one of Hejka’s battery mates, Shamoy Cristopher, did received the honor. Christopher is hitting .295 this season and leads the team with an .895 OPS. The switch-hitting catcher only has only 44 at-bats, but he leads the team is almost every advanced statistical category.

Christopher’s defense also helped him get the call, just as it did for Joey Ortiz. The second baseman has started ever...

Hanover, Md. – Rain soaked the field at Joe Cannon Stadium, but it was Dodgers who poured on the runs as they defeated the Herndon Braves 9-5 in a rain-shortened game.

The Dodgers were due for a big day at the plate after accumulating only one run in their last game Monday night, and the bats came alive in a big way.

Shane Coker (Creighton) started it off in the bottom of the first with an RBI single that extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games. From there, starting pitcher Conor Grove (Judson) held the lead for four innings until the Dodgers came up to bat again.

That’s when the game was busted wide open. The Dodgers batted around and scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth, with RBI’s from Jaren Shelby (St. College of Florida), Zach Seal (Wake Forrest), Brandon McIlwain (UC Berkeley), and a 3-run triple from David Bellamy (NM State).

Even though the outing from Brave’s pitcher John Mahoney (Prince George’s CC) was less than...
